Portland is the largest city in Maine and is the county seat of Cumberland County. The 2010 city population was 66,194, growing 3 percent since the census of 2000. With a metro population of over 500,000, the Greater Portland area is home to more than one-third of Maine's total population. Portland is accessible from I-95 (the Maine Turnpike), I-295, and U.S. 1. Also, U.S. Route 302, a major travel route and scenic highway between Maine and Vermont, has its eastern terminus in Portland. Concord Coach Lines bus service connects Portland to 14 other communities in Maine as well as to Boston's South Station and Logan Airport. Amtrak's Downeaster train service connects the city with Boston's North Station. Both Concord Coach Lines and the Downeaster can be found at the Portland Transportation Center on Thompsons Point Road, in Portland's Libbytown neighborhood. Greyhound Lines on Saint John Street connects to 17 Maine communities and to more than 3,600 U.S. destinations.
"A few of my friends and I decided to attend at festival in Portland. We attended the same festival the year before and wanted to see if anything new had been added. Us being cars guys we noticed how many exotic and custom cars were driving around the streets of Portland. You could tell they take great pride in their vehicles by how clean they look. Not only do they look expensive but you could tell they purchased the best parts for restoring their cars.
During the festival weekend there was a custom and collector car show at one of the local mall parking lot. My friends and I decided to attend before going out later that day to the festival. While walking around I noticed a group of vintage cars Me being an classic car guy I decided to approach one of the car owners. After speaking with him I learned that these cars were highly sought after in the Northeast and that their car club had over 100 members. I'm from Rhode Island which is a lot smaller market for these cars; and I've never heard of that many original vintage cars being in the same market. I than learned that one of the largest manufacturers for vintage car parts was located near by. This got me motivated to purchase one when I get home. The guy I talked to gave me his contact information for when I decide to start my restoration. We later attended the festival and all I could think of was purchasing my own vintage Mercedes I had a great time at the festival, but I really want to make a point to say the people of Portland are like no other.
